Erythromycin estolate
Indications/Uses
Upper & lower resp tract infections, skin & soft tissue infections, ENT infections, UTI.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 250 mg 6 hrly. Severe infections 500 mg 6 hrly. Childn 30-50 mg/kg daily in 4 divided doses, may be doubled in severe infections.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals. May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hepatic disease, jaundice.
Special Precautions
Prolonged QT interval, arrhythmia. Renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, diarrhoea, rash, hepatotoxicity.
Drug Interactions
Carbamazepine, cyclosporin, theophylline, warfarin, cisapride, cimetidine, terfenadine.
